Anri Sala – Time After Time

(more…)

Sam Dillemans - Insanity of the Detail / De waanzin van het detail

Fragment from a portret made by Luc Lemaître en Sam Degraeve about Sam Dillemans, a painter from Borghout Belgium. Beautiful shot in his studio.

Hearing him speaking about importance and watching his paintings makes you understand the way this man is suffering and cannot do anything else then paint his heavy smudged paintings.

“Art doesn’t know any compromise.”

How to explain my parents

A documentary series of 9 in which artists of abstract art try to explain their work to their parents. This gives a remarkable insight in the relation between the artist and his parents and the way the artist feels about his own work. This particular video features artist Arno Coenen who talks about the Eurotrash beer he developed for an art museum.

Sitting in a setting created by Lernert and Sander -which is always clean, mono-colored, no details to be found- all the attention goes to the artist and his father. It makes the image universal. It makes the relationship between art, the artist and the roots of the artist become universal. It this quality of visuals from Lernert and Sander which makes their work really great.

Het is een schone dag geweest

The film debut of Jos the Putter. An intimate feature length documentary about the last days of the father of the filmmaker as a farmer. The final harvest, the last time to buy a cow. Beautiful and sensitive photography. This isn’t the usual eye candy, it a 75 shot’s counting dinner which reminds us of dutch painters as Vermeer and van Gogh.
